General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (GCE Advanced Level) or A-level – is a school graduation qualification awarded to students completing a 2-year program. A-levels are equivalent to Russian EGE exams and A-level exams are sufficient for direct entrance to the UK universities and universities in over 40 other countries.

A-level program is split over 2 years – AS and A2 or Lower Sixth and Upper Sixth. In order to obtain a full A-level qualification students take 4 to 6 modules for each subject with a separate exam for each module. The majority of students study 3 to 4 subjects, although more subjects are taken by academically dedicated students. Grades vary from A* to U. Top universities would usually expect a successful applicant to have AAA results, with conditional offers by Russell group universities starting at BBB. Subject choice depends upon student’s university plans. Students who plan to study IT would typically pick Physics and Mathematics or Further Mathematics, while those wishing to study Medicine will need Biology and Chemistry.
