What’s your favourite thing about Algorithm A*?
Friendship. However, if we are talking about studying, we have quite small classes and that’s really comfortable and means we can really focus. Everything is quite serious here, we have a lot of homework and the study process is more organized than in a normal school. Schools in Europe concentrate on different things [compared to those in Russia]. Schools in Russia are just straightforward studying and often students don’t know what they’re studying for. In England they try to find individual goals.
Have you started thinking about your future, what you will do after you finish school?
I’d want to study Economics, or maybe Business. I’m quite good at Social Studies, and I’m good with numbers and math’s. Economics combines people’s behavior and numbers. If I stay here in Russia I will go to the National Research University Higher School of Economics to earn a double-degree in Economics from HSE and the University of London. My other plan is to study in Singapore. My sister lives there and they have good universities offering Economics. In Europe, they have an EU Business school, where they have a two-year bachelor degree, and we all planned to go there, but I think it’s impossible to get a good degree in two years. I was also thinking about Ireland.
Which extracurricular activities do you enjoy?
I’m finishing musical school, which is connected to the Gnesin Academy. So I’ll get a degree this year. I do jazz and pop singing. I also played tennis for 7 years.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I really like going on Instagram and chatting to people who follow me. I also enjoy reading self-help books, and fantasy books. Two weeks ago I found a book called The Happiness Equation, which is very useful in helping to get rid of things I don’t need and not letting things mess with my mind.
If you could have any job in the world, what would it be?
A job at McKinsey consulting company. It’s very hard to get a job there and they have really interesting projects.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years time?
Maybe not in a steady and comfortable job. I’d like something with an element of risk, lots of running around and solving problems. I’m good at solving problems and, sometimes, I have really good ideas. There are people who get called in when a company has a problem, they have a project, and they have two weeks to think of how to solve it. I’d like to do something like that.
